The Importance of NEAT Exercise

The Importance of NEAT Exercise

Let’s talk about movement beyond the gym - known as Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) is a fancy term for the calories you burn doing everyday tasks, and it’s a game-changer for your health.

You'll have heard the phase 'burning energy in my sleep' you literally are. But that can not be used as an excuse to consume more calories that you're burning.

NEAT includes activities like cleaning, gardening, or even fidgeting. Research shows these small movements significantly impact metabolism and can help with weight management. Simple changes, like taking walking meetings, choosing the stairs, or standing while working [INSERT OUR SUPER GREAT CORPORATE WELLBEING PROGRAMME HERE HAHA!], can boost NEAT. It’s all about staying active throughout the day, even when you’re not "exercising."

NEAT however, does not usually challenge your cardiovascular health like exercising does which is why we need to do both exercise and NEAT together to be healthy overall.

NEAT is a powerful yet underrated way to stay healthy. Incorporate more movement into your day—your body (and mind) will thank you.
